Confusion Rocks NPP Zonal Elections: Executive Demands Chairman Wontumi

Over the weekend, there a furor ensued between newly elected and appointed constituency executives and zonal executives of NPP in Ejura Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region over election of new zonal executives.

There was total resistance leading to war of hot exchanges of words especially between the zonal chairman and the Party’s constituency 1st vice chairman.

The drama compelled the executives to suspend the process indefinitely.

According to the zonal chairman of Sekyedumase, who is also an Assembly Member, Hon. Mustapha Ahmed, the constituency executives have relegated them to the back, disrespect the party constitution and now runs the party on their discretions.

Hon. Mustapha explained, he opposed the whole process because it was not transparent which he noted was part of the party’s bane in the 2012 elections.

“I was not told before they came to commence the elections. I only had a call from the 1st vice chairman Hon. Boagye Ebenezer asking me to come and give a handing over or outgoing speech for the process to start. How can that be?” he quizzed.

He described Honorable Boagye Ebenezer as ‘imperious’ and stubborn’.

The executives misread the mood of the people and continue to reject with disdain advise from anybody. The people are really unhappy with some of the big men of the party and we need to settle them before any further steps. Hon. Mustapha noted.

He ruled that the only mediator would be the Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako, politically known ‘Chairman Wontumi’.

“As it stands now, the only person who can solve this squabble is the regional chairman. We want to see the chairman and tell him our worries if not there shall never be any zonal elections at least in my area at all” .

In an attempt to speak with the 1st vice chairman, he directed this writer to the constituency chairman Mr. Abagna.
