CJ SCOLDS RADIO LAWYERS
The Chief Justice (CJ), Her Lordship Georgina Theodora Wood has cautioned new lawyers who have just been called to the bar not to engage in the practice of becoming commentators on either radio or television to gain popularity.
‘I want to call on you, new lawyers, to avoid this disturbing trend of gaining cheap popularity by acting as commentators on radio and television’, she cautioned. She made the above pronouncement when she swore in 183 newly qualified lawyers who have been called to the bar at the Banquet Hall, State House, in Accra yesterday.
The CJ also told the new lawyers that their core duty was to support the various courts of the land in administering justice.
Mrs. Theodore Wood further advised the lawyers to find solution to the social, political and economic problems confronting the country. ‘Lawyers are problem solvers and must at all times attend to the needs of the society’, she added.
She maintained that legal practitioners who do not respond to the problems of the society they find themselves in, would only be an impediment rather than development to the society.
This, she continued, would only lead to a lawless society, where people could easily flout the laws without any hesitation,
stressing that the only virtue of the law, was its flexibility and responsiveness.

To this end, the Chief Justice called upon the lawyers to live above expectation, uphold the rule of law and assist the court to administer justice.
‘You must adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving, adapt to the changes of the law and assist your various communities’, she noted.
