A policy analyst of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has chastised the attitude of the NDC in the ongoing 2012 election petition, saying that the NDC is best known for aggressiveness when things are not going in their favour. He said that the lawyers of the first and third respondents have adopted a lifestyle in this court case which must be discouraged; in that when they propose something to the court and later realize that their proposal will go against them then they are quick to retreat.Speaking on Okay FM, he said that what is happening in the counting of the pink sheet by KPMG is a clear demonstration of their behaviour; stressing that they know the counting will expose the lies hence their complains in the counting under the pretense that the boxes have been tampered with.He reiterated that the NDC was sensing abrupt defeat in the counting of the pink sheets because KPMG had reached half way through in the counting before they backed out with the excuse of bloating of boxes; adding that what the NDC knows best is to be aggressive when defeat is looming at their doorstep. He further said that it is not surprising that the NDC is now doubting the integrity and credibility of KPMG when they had earlier proposed for the counting of the pink sheets; stressing that the NDC lawyers and representatives signed to the agreement before KPMG commenced the counting. He implied that the NDC have indicated that they do not trust the registrar and this also means that the registrar has given wrong document to the judges which will invariably create indelible mark in the minds of their supporters. He alleged that the NDC wants to use the bloating of pink to coax their bidding that the pink sheet supplied to the registry was not up to the exact number purported to have been submitted. He therefore said that the NDC have no basis for their allegation because the registrar cannot manufacture additional pink sheet and that there is nothing in for their aggression; chiding that the NDC should not lie to the court and the public and then expect KPMG to cover up for them, consequently they are creating this tension that there is bloating of pink sheets in the vault.

Philip Addison A communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gabby Assumeng has chastised lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison for "showing crass disrespect" to the Justices of the Supreme Court. He said lawyer Addison since the hearing of the President Election Petition began always behaved rudely anytime a ruling goes against him in court.Gabby Assumeng was commenting on Philip Addison’s persistence to continue his re-examination of the petitioners’ key witness Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after the presiding judge, Justice William Atuguba had ruled against him.Mr. Addison said the conduct of the court is not in the interest of justice and amounted to curtailing his re-examination.But Justice Atuguba peeved by the comment said he [Addison] cannot dictate to the bench. On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Wednesday, Gabby Assumeng said Addison’s conduct is an affront to the laws of the court.According to him, the Justices of the Supreme Court must not gloss over such "insolence" but rather take punitive measures against Addison to serve as a deterrent to others in future.Gabby Assumeng intimated that talking back at the Justice of the Supreme Court shows immaturity on the part of the petitioners lawyer. He could not fathom why Addison who he claims takes delight in raising needless objections in court gets offended when the same thing is done to him.The NDC man called on the petitioners to replace Addison with a more matured person like Akoto Ampaw to continue the case."I think the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should withdraw Addison; it will be in their own interest"

The fiery exchanges between Mr Philip Addison andwere so bellicose that sitting had to end abruptly with the bench reminding lawyers of its authority.
A humanitarian group, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporation, based in the US, is putting up a Skill Training Institute at Suhum to equip the youth with technical and vocational skills. The facility is a gesture by the group to honour the first president of Ghana, late Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who contributed so much to the group when he was a member. This was made known when a six member delegation of the Fraternity from the US, led by its President, Mr Jimmy Hammock, paid a courtesy call on Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Eastern Regional Minister on Wednesday.Outlining the purpose of their visit to the Regional Minister, Mr Hammock said the group’s basic aim was to learn skills and to in turn share those skills acquired with the world, stressing that, “Dr Nkrumah was part of us and he never stopped thinking about the welfare of people.”“We therefore deem it a befitting tribute to come to Ghana to honour him by putting up the Skill Training Institute in his name and we desire to make the school attain an international recognition,” he said.Mr Hammock acknowledged that the project, which is almost completed, is the first of its kind being undertaken by the Fraternity outside the US and that it indicated the absolute respect they were offering to Dr Nkrumah for his dedication to the Fraternity and to humanity. The President added that, as part of their efforts to sustain the institute, plans are far advanced to build hostels, dormitories and teachers’ bungalows to augment the successful running of the school.“We have also made arrangements for volunteers, who are prepared to come and assist in the teaching and training of the students when the institute starts operating,” he added.Ms Ntoso expressed gratitude to the group for choosing to site the project in her region and pledged to ensure that the project is sustained to benefit the youth of the region and the nation as a whole. She said her outfit would help expand the facility to attract beneficiaries from all parts of the country. The Regional Minister, on behalf of President John Mahama, thanked the team for honouring Dr Nkrumah and expressed the hope that the facility would be the first of many of such projects in the country “and not the last.”Mr Samuel Fleischer Kwabi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Suhum Municipal Assembly, who accompanied the delegation to the Regional Minister, assured to negotiate with most organizations in the country to contribute in sustaining the facility. He announced that his Assembly had made available 14 extra acres of land, near the institute, to be used for an industrial village, in addition to the 6 acres given for the establishment of the Vocational and Technical Training Institute. The team presented a plaque and a Fraternity member jacket to President Mahama, through the Regional Minster, to be conserved at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum in Accra.

Philip Addison Counsel for petitioners, Philip Addison has been compelled by presiding judge William Atuguba to end his re-examination after he took “a bad gamble” in tendering exhibits that had not been properly labeled.Early on, he served notice that he had finished his re-examination pending a determination by the court to be allowed to clarify allegations from Tsatsu Tsikata that Bawumia’s evidence was ripe with mis-categorisation errors.Addison appeared to be done with his re-examination. The wait for a ruling was long. But it came – It was 5-4 in his favour but the pretty uneventful court proceeding was turned on its head.He could proceed, after the ruling, but his victory was short-lived...

Lawyer Phillip Addison Lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison has ended the re-examination of the star witness in the election petition case, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. During the re-examination, Mr Addison was interrupted by a series of objections from lawyers of the respondents. Prior to the court’s decision to go on a short recess, Philip Addison in his re-examination, called on the witness to identify 11 out of 20 polling stations bothering on duplicated serial numbers which was in his ‘further and better particulars’ he made reference to during the cross-examination...

Philip Addison Lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison had a hectic time in soliciting responses during his re-examination of the star witness, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the ongoing election petition at the Supreme Court: the court overruled almost every question of his.His re-examination was bombarded with intense objections from counsel for the first and third respondents, with occasional support from the second respondent’s counsel on Wednesday. All objections raised against his questions were sustained except two which included the categorization of some of the polling stations, which the witnessed had admitted during his cross-examination that there were issues with labelling.Even with this, counsel for the respondents objected to the tendering, positing that some polling station names might have been smuggled in because the exhibits have no numbers. The objection was sustained, and according to the court Addison took a "bad gamble", and failed to "follow proper suit".His persistence to be given a chance to come back tomorrow with a properly labelled exhibits, was not entertained by the court.Mr Addison, in his re-examination early on, asked the witness whether it was true from his analysis as suggested by counsel for the respondents that he only used “favourable polling stations”.This was strongly objected to by counsel for the first respondent, Tony Lithur, who argued that there was no ambiguity in the witness’ answer during cross-examination...

A member of the government communication team, Gabby Assumeng, has said the addition of 7 more boxes to the 24 existing ones containing the pink sheets should be blamed on the court's registrar. He said that with the instance where complains have been made of missing boxes from the registry, the NDC counsel told the registrar there is a criminal aspect as far as this case is concerned; adding that the Court registrar is responsible for the boxes at the registry and so any addition to the 24 boxes should be blamed on him.Speaking on Okay FM, he alleged that when the Supreme Court gave a ruling that KPMG should audit the number of pink sheets at the Court Registry, the secretary to the Judicial Service, Mr. Opoku Agyemang did not agree to the idea that the security should protect the pink sheets because he (Opoku Agyemang) knew what he wanted to do.“I am saying that, that criminal Court Registrar who allowed the chance should be blamed; it is established and I can say on authority based on what our lawyers have told us and based on what was said at the Supreme Court that the boxes were 24 but 7 boxes have been added and the Court Registrar who sat there and allowed whether a dwarf to add the 7 boxes is a criminal, he has to be charged...

A Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah has asked Counsel for the third respondent in the election petition case, Mr Tsatsu Tsikata to apologise for “accusing the court registry of criminality”.Mr Tsikata described as "a criminality" the discovery of additional boxes of pink sheets during the proposed auditing instructed by the Supreme Court.According to him, an initial number of 24 boxes were presented to the auditing firm; KPMG, but after careful scrutiny, the number had spiked up to 31; adding “we cannot discount criminality from the process of achieving justice".But Owusu Bempah is of the view that Mr Tsikata has spited the judicial service especially the judges with the use of the word ‘criminality’.According to him, counsel for the third respondent is fond of showing disrespect to the judges and if not stopped will be detrimental to the judicial system in the country.“He should come and apologise to the judges and the country as a whole because what he said was not right. It is absolutely beyond the bounds of reasoning for him to accuse the court registry of criminality...

Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, a member of the legal team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), prefers the head count of the number of boxes of pink sheets at the Supreme Court Registry to be done in an open court.According to him, his side deems the process “compromised” and so, will not go along with it unless the process is displayed in the full glare of the court.Speaking to Radio Gold, Lawyer Amaliba explained the circumstances that led to the increased number of the boxes containing the pink sheets. He narrated that last Thursday, representatives from all the parties involved in the election case took inventory of the boxes and was aware of the number until Monday when they realized some changes. The Judicial Secretary, he said, was informed of the sudden changes and an order was made for the suspension of the audit. He recounted that on Monday, “when the auditing begun, our representative at the counting discovered that some new boxes have been introduced. ...
