The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, has appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to accord the presidency respect. On Thursday, 16 February, 2012 President Mills delivered his fourth State of the Nation’s address in accordance with Articles two and 36 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana amidst cheers and hooting. The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) lauds President Mills for helping in the eradication of cases of guinea worm across the country and for what seems as his iron-clad control of the national economy. Inasmuch as the Union lauds the Mills government for keeping vigil in matters of the economy, NUGS would also commend former President Kuffuor too for securing the needed funding which provided pregnant mothers fee-free delivery.

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has stated that though he frowns upon insults on the person of the President, he thinks there is no big deal with the phenomenon because Mills is not the first president to have suffered such attacks. According to him, many past presidents and presidential candidates – like ex-president Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo – have had to put up with insults and harsh criticisms at one point or the other. Therefore, he viewed it as an act of hypocrisy for anyone to cry foul when the president was insulted.

Founder and leader of the defunct United Renaissance Party (URP), “Chuck” Kofi Wayo has alleged that former President John Agyekum Kufuor literary went on his knees before President John Evans Atta Mills to let go of investigations into the Woyome judgment debt saga. According to him, former President Kufuor, fully aware of his complicity in the entire saga and rightly embarrassed, beseeched President Mills not to bring his (Kufuor’s) name up in the saga regarding investigations into the matter. The new leader for the People’s National Convention (PNC) has taken a swipe at the two leading political parties- the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)- describing them as failures and urged Ghanaians to look towards the emerging new political third force. Hassan Ayariga, who was elected as the PNC flagbearer early this month, is convinced a new wave of vibrant leadership is born in the PNC and Ghanaians must get on board.
