Nigeria: MEND Boasts of More Soldiers Killed

WARRI–MOVEMENT for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, yesterday, said that it was not only four military men that were killed in the March 2, gun fight between Joint Task Force, codenamed Operation Pulo Shield, with militants in the creek of Bayelsa State, adding that over 10 soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel, were killed. It also said none of its men was killed in the encounter and challenged the task force to produce the corpse of any of its fighters that was killed

Nigeria: Chevron Gas Rig Explosion Is Killing Us – Koluama Communities

WHEN Vanguard visited Koluama I, Koluama 2, Temazau, Ebidouama and other communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, which were affected by the January 16, 2012 explosion of a gas rig, K.S Endeavour (Panama), near the North Apoi platform/field, west of the Funiwa field, on Wednesday, February 22, it was observed that neither the Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, operator of the rig nor the Federal Government, had undoubtedly evaluated the environmental, health and economic implications of the disaster on the people. Though, the gas wellhead was still burning on February 22 when our reporters visited, that is 37 days after the explosion, the fire had considerably ebbed due to the well drilled by CNL to eat away the combustion.

Nigeria: Military Denies Involvement in Jos Church Attack

The Military authorities yesterday said the church member killed by fellow worshippers in Jos a week ago was the same person thought to have facilitated entrance for a suicide bomber into the COCIN church premises. Adams Joseph Ashaba was lynched allegedly because he was seen alighting from the suicide bomber’s car shortly before the blast penultimate Sunday, but it later emerged that he was member of the attacked Church of Christ in Nigeria. After the deadly bombing, church leaders alleged that a military man was noticed assisting the car bomber to gain entrance into the church

Nigeria: Court Remands Husband for Killing Wife Over Food

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos yesterday remanded a man, Odion Ukhoria, at the Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly killing his wife. Ukhoria, 41, whose plea was not taken, is facing a charge of murder.
