AGAINST the backdrop of the completion of integration of its operations and processes with those of former Oceanic Bank, Ecobank Nigeria has assured customers of seamless service delivery at its over 600 branches nationwide. A statement by the bank noted that as a result of the merger, all customers of the former Oceanic Bank and Ecobank Nigeria now have their accounts with the enlarged Ecobank Nigeria. According to the statement, ‘Ecobank is the only merged bank so far to enable full access to accounts, and make a wide range of other services accessible for customers across its entire branch network.’ Giving more details about both banks’ integration, Ecobank’s Group Head, Domestic Banking, Kingsley Aigbokhaevbo, reiterated that customers’ account numbers and branches where their accounts were opened remained the same and unchanged.

Maputo — The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has told Mozambican Prime Minister Aires Ali that it plans to prioritise the development of the Nacala rail corridor in northern Mozambique in its plans for the next five years. The deputy chairperson of JICA, Tsuneo Kurokawa, was speaking in Tokyo on Tuesday at a meeting between Ali and the sub-Saharan Africa Committee of Keidnren (the Japanese Business Federation). Kurokawa said that JICA’s activities in Mozambique would also focus on upgrading the roads from Nampula and Cuamba and from Cuamba to Lichinga, in the far north of the country, as well as on sanitation and water supply, and improving education facilities.

Nigeria needs to keep watch on its domestic debt in order not to crowd out the private sector from the domestic debt market and thus stifle the real sector. Jide Akintunde, organiser of the Nigeria Development and Finance Forum (NDFF) who stated this, added that many Nigerians may be getting uncomfortable with Nigeria’s current debt profile. According to him, though the country is still within acceptable threshold in the debt to GDP (gross domestic product) ration, there was need for restraint in order not to reach unsustainable levels.

Dar es Salaam — Standard Chartered Bank’s staff will participate in the 10th Kilimanjaro Marathon, it has been revealed.They will compete in the ‘Run for Reason’ race to raise funds for the bank’s Seeing is Believing initiative to tackle avoidable blindness. At last year’s Clinton Global Annual meeting, the bank promised to raise $63 million to build sustainable eye-care services across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.By 2020, the bank plans to have raised $100 million for the initiative globally, according to the bank’s executive chief executive officer, Jeremy Awori

Bank customers have been warned to be wary of people who stand near automated teller machines (ATMs) as some of them might be thieves waiting to pounce on the customers who withdraw money. The NMB Singida branch manager, Mr William Kaitira, said some of them pretend to assist people who have no experience in using the machines and use the opportunity to steal money from them. Mr Kaitira gave the warning recently when sensitising residents of Senene Village to inculcate the culture of having bank accounts

Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri approved on Tuesday 21/2/2012 that Iran Garment Holding Company would establish two new plants for producing small automobiles and manufacturing and filling gas cylinders with $1.5 billion investments. The two projects will be set up in Beni Suef and Al-Menya industrial zones to provide 3000 job opportunities.
