CAGE THE PARROT … … Nunoo-Mensah Is A Danger To Mahama-Jake
Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jacob Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey has taken a swipe at the National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd), describing him as a danger to President John Mahama, following his reckless statement against striking workers in the country.
“If you analyze what General Nunoo Mensah said to the striking workers, it tells you that he is giving the president dangerous advise. He does not deserve to remain in office. He is a danger to Mahama,” argued Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey.
The leader of the opposition party made this observation in an exclusive interview with The Chronicle in response to the security capo’s statement, blaming the NPP as the ones behind the actions of the striking workers in the country.
He dismissed the allegations made by former military officer and urged him and the government to spend their time and energy on looking for solutions to the ailing economy rather than looking for scapegoats.
“The striking workers don’t need politicians to tell them what to do when they are suffering,” noted Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey.
The Retired Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah, recently called on public striking workers who were not ready to sacrifice and work to revive the ailing Ghanaian economy to take their passports and “get out of the country.”
A day after making this statement, the retired General went on Adom FM and accused the NPP of being behind the prevailing strikes and labour unrest in the country.
He said as an intelligence chief, he was certain that the NPP was behind the numerous strike actions in the country.
‘I have enough experience, working with CIA and other intelligence agencies, to say that the NPP is behind these things,” he noted in his interview with Adom FM.
He added: ‘I’m experienced enough to know that these are politically motivated demonstrations. They are hiding behind others, like the Trojan horse, to destroy the nation. If it’s not political, why is it that NPP people are insulting me?
‘Nana Akomea and others. I know this is part of the political struggle. I know everybody in NPP. In 1996 I stood on NPP ticket, if you don’t know, so I know everybody there. They are the ones behind it.’
Commenting further, Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said the former military officer has a penchant of making reckless statements and said it was about time the President release him from his post, since he has outlived his usefulness.
The former Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Relations said the warnings about Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah were clearly written on the wall for President Mahama to take action on.
He referred the Head of State to the advise the former military officer gave to the late President Mills at a time he was ill and considering to give up his work.
The National Security Advisor, four days after the demise of the late President Mills, revealed that he prevailed on the late Head of State when he had wanted to relinquish his position prematurely, to shelf that idea and rather take inspiration from the Holy Bible by reading the book of Job.
The former Chief of Defense Staff also disclosed that his advise was also against the wish of the former First Lady, Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, who had desired that her husband steps down, because of his ill-health to enable him enjoy his peace of mind.
‘He (Mills) told me, General, my wife has advised me to step down, but I (General Nunoo- Mensah) told him that God is in control and has put him there…so he can’t leave and abandon his people,’ peacefmonline.com quoted the former military officer as saying.
According to the leader of the opposition party, the above mentioned ill-advise of the ‘security parrot’ goes to confirm why the elephant family were demanding for his head from the government since his continuous stay in office would also create problems for President Mahama.
The NPP, Monday, issued statement expressing shock and disappointment at the outburst of the National Security Advisor and called for his immediate resignation.
“By his careless outburst at organised labour, which will only create a platform for further tension and animosity between government and unionized labour, Gen. Nunoo-Mensah has exhibited to all, his incompetence in advising both Presidents Mills and Mahama on national security matters,” noted the NPP in its statement.
