Cabinet Passes Conduct Of Public Officers’ Bill
Cabinet has approved the Conduct of Public Officers’ bill. The bill is expected to check corruption within the public services.
According to government it will take all necessary steps to curb corruption within the public service.
Speaking at a press briefing a Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Ofosu Kwakye said he is hopeful that the bill will go a long way to detect, punish and possibly eradicate corruption in the public service.
‘This conduct of public officers’ bill seeks to provide some form of harmony and coherence in terms of anti-corruption legislation.”
Mr. Kwakye further stated that the purpose of the bill is also to give effect to chapter 24 of the 1992 constitution, ”article 284 enjoins public officers not to put themselves in a position where their personal interest conflict with the performance of their functions; and this bill seeks to ensure that, that is adhered to.”
