Breaking News: Herve Renard Leaves Zambia Coaching Post, Set To Join Sochaux
Posted On Monday, 7th October 2013
Frenchman Herve Renard has been released as the coach of Zambia to give him the chance to take over as the manager of French side Sochaux, the Zambia FA has announced.
This comes after the Frenchman failed to edge past Ghana to grab a place in the final phase of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Renard had expressed his desire to leave Zambia after shambolic preparation by the Zambia FA (FAZ) severely affected their hopes of beating Ghana to the sole place in the final playoffs for the 2014 World Cup.
While the Zambia FA sought to blame Ghana for their woes, Renard vigorously attacked FAZ for their bad preparations for key qualifiers insisting Ghana must not be blamed.
The astute manager is now moving to France for bigger challenges where he is assured of good preparation in his matches devoid of the amateur ways the Chipolopolo were handled.
“The Football Association of Zambia hereby announces the release of Herve Renard from the job of National coach of the Zambian National Football Team,” the Zambia FA said in a statement on Monday.
“The 2012 Nations Cup winning coach has been offered a wonderful opportunity at FC Sochaux in the top league in France.
“FAZ and Herve have consulted and it has been agreed not to stand in his way.”
Renard, who catapulted Zambian from also-rans to title contenders, helped them to win their only African Cup of Nations title in 2012 but his contribution was not appreciated by the Zambians particularly the sports minister Kambwili.
The Zambian FA is now taking credit for Renard’s move to France claiming they played a role in his move to French side Sochaux.
“It is a compliment for a coach working in Africa to be head-hunted by a top European Club. It makes us proud to be able to take ownership of Herve’s rise as a successful international coach,” the FAZ statement read.
“FAZ wishes to thank Renard for his dedication to duty, hard work, proficiency and wish him well as he takes up his new coaching job.”
Meanwhile, Renard, Assistant Coach Patrice Beaumelle will take charge of the squad for next week’s friendly against Brazil.
