Breaking News: Final Verdict: John Mahama Was Validly Elected
After 8 months and barely 50 days of historic sitting by the Supreme Court in Ghana’s Election Petition case, the chief judge of the case, Justice William Atuguba, has spoken and ruled that President John Dramani Mahama was validly elected as the legitimate President of the 2012 general elections.
At a fully packed Supreme Court in Accra today August 29th of day 50 of the hearing, which happened to be the judgment day, Justice William Atuguba led the 9-member panel of judges on the case, indicated that irregularities did not affect the elections.
The petitioners, who are made up of the 2012 presidential candidate of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and the chairman of the NPP, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey filed the petition to challenge the validity of the results of the 2012 presidential elections alleging some constitutional and statutory violations that favoured incumbent President John Mahama.
The petitioners had earlier argued that, there were gross and widespread irregularities at some polling stations and have called for the annulment of the election results.
