Boy, 21, Rapes Prayer Partner
A 21 year old unemployed, who was alleged to be a prayer partner of a 15 year old girl has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for defiling the latter in the process of their prayer arrangements.
George Tetteh, who met the victim one midnight at a food joint managed to create an acquaintance with her through the exchange of phone numbers. After some months of phone conversation and personal meetings, the convict met the victim one night and had sex with her on the stairway of the said food joint.
George Tetteh, during the trial denied having any acquaintance with the victim but later disclosed that he had been in contact with the victim for months, and even sometimes prays together with her.
He had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, contrary to section 101 of Act 29/60 of the criminal code, as amended by section 11 of act 534/98. He was later found guilty after the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The facts of the case are that in October 2011, at about 12 midnight, the victim went to a restaurant called Golden Star Joint at Odorkor Official Town to buy food.
The prosecutor, ASP Sarah Acquah, told the court that whilst buying the food, George Tetteh approached her and requested the victim to give him her contact number which she did. She said on November 12, 2011, in the afternoon, George Tetteh called the victim and asked her to meet him at the same restaurant which she again obliged.
According to her, the convict lured the victim to the staircase on the first floor of the restaurant and had sex with her and warned her not to disclose the act to anybody.
‘In the early part of January 2012, the victim’s mother detected some changes in the victim and subsequently confronted her. The victim confirmed to her mother that George Tetteh indeed had sex with her some five weeks ago,’ the prosecutor stated.
ASP Acquah mentioned that a report was made to the police and a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital for examination. George Tetteh was subsequently arrested after the medical report had proven that indeed the victim had been defiled.
In another development an Accra Circuit Court has remanded an 18 year old student into custody for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 10 year old girl.
Patrick Quarshie, who lives in the same vicinity with the victim, claimed he was tired of the rumour that he was having sex with the victim though it was false.
He indicated in his caution statement that he was forced to finally have sex with the victim to confirm the ongoing rumour in the neigbourhhod.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement before the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemeva. He is expected to re-appear before the court on October 3, 2013.
Chief Inspector veronica Rexy Ofei told the court that on September 14, 2013, in the afternoon, the victim was playing in the accused house with her friend.
She said Patrick Quarshie upon seeing the victim asked her to come and wash a bowl for him in his father’s kitchen, which she obliged, and then dragged her into his father’s room and had sex with her.
According to the prosecutor, the next day, the victim complained to her aunt that she was feeling pain in her vagina and when questioned, mentioned Patrick as the one who had sex with her.
Chief Inspector Ofei mentioned that a report was made at the Mamprobi DOVVSU and a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital for examination and report.
‘The accused was later arrested and in his caution statement stated that he was falsely accused of having sex with the victim, so he decided to have sex with her this time,’ the prosecutor stated.
