Ghana Black Stars sing and dance in Cairo



Winger Christian Atsu Twasam became the best player of the day as he was very delightful to watch when the Black Stars thrashed the Dream Team 6-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.

The much anticipated game, which was used as a send off match for the senior national team, was attended by dignitaries and thousands of football fans who trooped to the Accra Sports Stadium to watch their cherished Black Stars play for the last time before they embarked on their dream journey to Brazil.

Coach Kwesi Appiah made sure every player in the squad got a feel of the game as he used two separate sets in the first and second halves of the game.

The Black Stars opened the scoring within just 3 minutes of action through Atsu who won the hearts of many fans at the stadium with his splendid performance and excellent display of football. The youngster banged in his second and third goals within 5 minutes to put the Stars 3 goals ahead in the less than 15 minutes. Striker Jordan Ayew and Albert Adomah added the fourth and fifth goals respectively to end the first half 5-0 in favor the Black Stars.

The Dream Team seemed to have realized their mistakes as they came back very strong in the second half, making sure the Stars did not score extra goals as they came up with fewer opportunities. The local select side, which was led by Ghanaian football tactician Herbert Addo and his counterpart Isaac ‘Opeele’ Boateng,  however rewarded themselves with a goal for their efforts in the second half from the spot kick after Ashitey Ollenu was brought down in the penalty box.

The Black Stars, nonetheless ended the game on an emphatic note after Sulley Ali Muntari converted an excellent free kick to beat goalkeeper Robert Dabuo to end the game 6-1 in favor of the national team.

Meanwhile the team is expected to enplane to the Netherlands today, where they will face the Dutch national team the ‘Orange’ in a pre-World Cup friendly in Rotterdam on Saturday, May 31st before Kwesi Appiah names his final 23 for the Copa Mundial  in Brazil. Ghana will take on South Korea in another World Cup friendly in the USA on June 4th.

Ghana is potholed in a very tricky Group G which comprises heavyweight Germany, Portugal and the USA.
