Beauticians association trains members

A programme to fully equip beauticians and hairdressers countrywide with the relevant skills to suit modern trends has started.In the Eastern Region, 490 hairdressers underwent the six-day training session in seven batches and the beneficiaries were expected to also train others in their respective regions.

It is being organised by the National Association of  Beauticians and Hairdressers (NABH)  in seven regions  with sponsorship from the Skills Development Fund (SDF).

Addressing 70 of the participants drawn from different parts of the Eastern Region in Koforidua on Tuesday, the National President of NABH, Mrs Joyce Lamptey, said it had become necessary for the beauticians and hairdressers to be fully equipped with the relevant skills to be able to offer the best to customers and also stay in business. According to her, although most beauticians and hairdressers can perform creditably to win the confidence of the public, their inability to cope with modern trends and also manage their businesses efficiently has led to many of them facing a lot of challenges.

And to address the challenges, Mrs Lamptey said the association had to organise the training for them in batches so that they would in turn train others; adding, “the training will add colour to their performance”. Course contents

The Managing Director of EDC Consulting Limited, which had been engaged for the training programme, Madam Abena Otu,  outlined the course contents,  which included gender studies, business planning, record keeping, costing and pricing, health and safety and designing and management.

“Most often, these beauticians and hairdressers who also have apprentices are not able to sustain their businesses, and we have designed the course in such a way that they will be able to acquire relevant skills within the six-day training period,” she stated.

In a related development, 70 members from the various sub-zones of the NABH in the Ashanti Region have also benefited from a training programme to improve their managerial skills, reports Joseph Kyei-Boateng, KUMASI.

The Lead Trainer of EDC Consulting Limited for the Ashanti Region, Mr David Z. Atiga, said the training would help the NABH members acquire entrepreneurial and marketing skills, enhance their customer care and support their business plans. Managerial capacity

He said there was the need to strengthen their business and managerial capacity in the area of creativity and innovation.

He commended the participants, and urged them to take their lessons seriously.

The SDF Monitor for the Ashanti Region, Mr Yaw Owusu-Nkwantabisa, disclosed that the SDF began its operation in 2011, and emphasised that the SDF, under the Government of Ghana and in collaboration with the DANIDA and COTVET, dealt with grants and not loans.

The Ashanti Regional President of the NABH, Madam Hannah Adjei, asked the participants to take their lessons seriously and strive to put the knowledge acquired into practice to enhance their businesses.

She commended both the EDC and the SDF for making the training possible.
