Asante-Akyem Central Municipal Assembly gets MCE and PM
The Asante-Akyem Central Municipal Assembly has elected their Presiding Member (PM) and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), with each candidate obtaining hundred per cent of votes cast. The assembly members elected, Mr George Kyei-Baffour and Alhaji Braimah Boyong as PM and MCE respectively.
Hitherto, the assembly had for almost three years failed to elect a PM after conducting 16 elections in seven sittings. That failure had caused the municipality a lot of harm as many development projects and other foreign donor fundings such as District Development Fund (DDF) had eluded it.
Both the election of the PM and the MCE confirmation were supervised by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Lukas Yiryel and the deputy Ashanti Regional Electoral Officer (E.C.) Mr. Lawrence Sarpong.
Addressing the assembly members, the Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, thanked the members for successfully electing their leaders and urged them to continue in that spirit of brotherliness.
He expressed the hopebelief that they would relegate their party affiliations to the background when they entered the assembly so that they could think alike and come out with meaningful programmes to accelerate the pace of development in the municipality.
He stressed that though there had been losses, there was still room for improvement.
Mr Opoku advised them to work in close collaboration with the new MCE to enhance effective administration, stressing that, as a human being, he could falter but when such a development happened, it should be handled in a manner that would not bring disaffection and intolerance to the people they were serving.
The MP for the area, Mr Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, for his part commended the regional minister for his timely intervention and stressed that it would go a long way to foster a better relationship and bring development to the area.
