Asamoah Gyan breaks Ghana goal drought

Asamoah Gyan broke his goalscoring drought for Ghana in the 3-0 win over Egypt in a friendly match on Thursday.

The 27-year-old scored the third to wrap up an impressive performance for the Black Stars in the preparatory game ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gyan has not scored a goal for the Black Stars since his sweet free kick in the 2-0 win over Mali at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Al Ain striker was indeed 18-days away from hitting a year of firing blank in a Ghana shirt.

The fact Gyan quit the national team temporarily for five months however helps his case.

He decided to ‘take a break’ from international football following an intense backlash for his penalty miss against Zambia in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Ghana captain has however been in sensational form for his UAE club this term where he has scored a staggering 21-goals in 13 games.

His return to scoring form for Ghana comes in a nick of time ahead of the commencement of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa where Gyan’s goals will be greatly needed to power the Black Stars to win their first African title in 31-years.
