It is for this reason that the Asylum Down branch of the Apostolic Church of Ghana has donated a 10, 000 liter water storage facility, food items and toiletries amounting to about GHC 7000 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, as part of the church’s 20th Anniversary.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com , the Presiding Elder of the Church, Daniel Acquaye revealed that as part of its responsibilities, the church is obliged not to only take care of the spiritual needs of the community in which it is situated but the physical needs also.

“…our church is here in Asylum Down and this Hospital is also close to us so we decided that since it is in our community, we must come their aid by helping to provide certain vital amenities, such as a water storage system”.

According to him, the church has taken it upon itself to help raise the living conditions at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital because the Government of Ghana cannot shoulder the burden alone, if the purpose for which the Hospital was set up would be achieved.

Responding to the kind gesture by the Asylum Down branch of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, which is also known as the Mt. Zion Centre of Excellence, the Senior Supervisor of the Hospital, Abigail Tay expressed profound joy and gratitude to the church.

“…though the Hospital is in dire need of many facilities, this has come at a time when we most need it,” she said.

However, Elder Daniel Acquaye said the church’s visit to the Hospital would not be a nine day wonder but will take a full scale assessment of the needs of the Hospital to help in planning to tackle them.
