Residents of a village near Malari, not far from Konduga town, Konduga LGA of Borno State, have repelled the attack by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to the statement by the Every Nigerian Do Something movement curator Dr. Peregrino Brimah, the terrorists invaded the villages at about 11 p.m. on Friday, in a clear attempt to abduct local women. The villagers, however, were able to engage them in a fight with makeshift weapons and hold them up until the Nigerian military forces arrived.

A number of terrorists were killed in the course of the attacks, while the rest of the group fled the area. The fight ended at early morning hours of Saturday.

Dr. Brimah then points out that concerned civilians and civil groups have been applying to the Federal Government to grant them the right to bear arms and receive official military training. Such method is effective in aiding Nigerian security services to curb the terrorist activities, and a similar approach was utilized to end similar crises in neighboring Algeria in the 90’s.

The ENDS foundation advocates for peace, stability and progress in Nigeria that supports the Civilian Joint Task Force vigilantes by donating stun guns, pepper spray and walkie-talkies.
