Amoako Tuffuor Never Disapproved Of Bawumia’s Candidacy
This is simply bad journalism. There have been several instances of
headlines not reflecting their body stories in the Ghanaian media, but
this one may be the worst of them all.
On Tuesday, a Citi FM article that appeared on Ghanaweb blared out a
headline “Bawumia is not the best candidate for NPP – Amoako Tuffuor.”
Meanwhile the only quote that the author could attribute to Dr. Amoako
Tuffuor is “why do we bring Bawumia into the picture now when we don’t
have any reason to think Nana Addo won’t run. If Nana Addo decides he
won’t run, then this point could be relevant for discussion. We must
get to the river before we cross, rather than jumping and jumping into
another controversial situation.”
In a phone conversation to bring the said article to his attention,
Dr. Amoako Tuffuor angrily said “I never said that. In fact, if Nana
Addo decides not to run, I think Dr. Bawumia is our best candidate.”
How the quote from the article and the statement from Dr/ Amoako
Tuffuor reflect a position that poo poos of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s
candidacy is mysterious at best, and it reflects a bad case of
journalism by the author.
We urge Citi FM and other Ghanaian media houses to take accurate
reporting very seriously and resist the temptation to overly
sensationalize their reporting to the extent of actually misreporting
the news. People’s lives can be significantly altered by inaccurate
reporting of news.
