Africa: All Set for the Fifa World Cup Play Off Draw in Cairo for African Qualifiers
Nine of the ten teams that will enter the final qualifying round for 2014 FIFA World Cup are known and only Group I remains unresolved at present. By the end of Sunday the 8th after he encounter between Cameroon and Libya to be played in Yaounde then ten teams reaching the play-offs will be complete.
At present after the matches on Saturday the 7th, Egypt, Cote D’Ivoire, Algeria, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ethiopia, Cape Verde and Senegal had made it through to the play- offs which will be decided in a draw to be held at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) HQ in Cairo, Egypt by FIFA on Monday the 6th September at noon (Egyptian time).
A FIFA Team inclusive of FIFA director of Competitions, Mustapha Fahmy and Gordon Savic, Head of FIFA World Cup & Olympic Qualifiers Competitions, will be in Egypt for the draw. The September 12th FIFA rankings will be used to determine the seeding with the five highest ranked teams in one pot and the other five teams will be placed in another pot. There will be also a draw for each match to determine which team plays host first.
The home and away play-off matches to find the five (5) African representatives at the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 will be played during:
11-15 October 2013: 1st leg and 15-19 November 2013: 2nd leg.
