Adom TV Introduces New Programme Barima Nkwan
As part of efforts to inform, educate and entertain viewers in the country, Adom TV , a channel on Multi TV has introduced a new programme dubbed ‘Barima Nkwan’ which is aired on Sundays at 5:00pm.
According to the channel manager of Adom TV, Rickie Anokye, the aim of the programme which was introduced six weeks ago, is to showcase men who can really cook in the absence of their wives. The programme is organized to promote the cooking skills of men in various professional fields.
The channel manager hinted that the programme is being aired to change Ghanaian tradition and philosophy that a man’s place is certainly not in the kitchen, adding that in recent times the trend had changed.
Ricky Anokye told BEATWAVES that the programme promotes cooking in a fun atmosphere, encourages people to have more fun in the kitchen and inspires people to view cooking as a creative outlet, making them ‘artiste[s] in their kitchen’.
Barima Nkwan has different celebrity guests from politics, sports, television, film and music stopping by the Barima Nkwan kitchen to spend time in the kitchen to perform a song or share one of their favourite recipes. Barima Nkwan is a show that is educational, but demonstrated in an entertaining format with an appreciation of other forms of art.
A guest on the programme goes to the market to buy foodstuff for his impending cooking assignment. He joins the limited league of people who usually pay below the market price whenever they visit the market. For such people, their fame pays the rest of the price.
The show being hosted by Adjoa Saah, has so far seen personalities like Prophet Alex Twum of Word Vision Chapel International and Bosuo Fame, Supt. Kofi Sarpong, Capt. Smart of Adom FM, A-Plus, Mr Beautiful, Okyeame Kofi, Hon. Asamoa Boateng, Shasha Marley, Akrobeto among others. BEATWAVES gathered that in December this year all the guests who have been on the show would compete to determine who the overall best chef is.
Recently when Superintendent Kofi Sarpong was hosted on Barima Nkwan, he prepared konkonte and groundnut soup.
The award-winning gospel musician, before preparing the food, told the host that he would be using ginger and onions to steam his meat before preparing the groundnut soup which he did to the satisfaction of the host and viewers.
As soon as he signalled food was ready, Corporal Kofi Boakye, a friend of the Superintendent was on hand to act as connoisseur.
Licking her fingers as she devoured a police-inspired konkonte and groundnut soup, Adjoa beamed with smiles while thanking Salomey, the DSP’s wife. She giggled and blurted out: ‘I wish I have a man like you.’
