Accountant In Court Over GH¢82,977,00
Adumah pleaded not guilty and would reappear in court on June 4.2014.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Charles Anku said in August 2013, the complainant in the case, who is the Regional Director of BDR, Hannah Eshun observed that the revenue statement from the department was very low.
Chief Inspector Anku stated that Mrs. Eshun conducted her own investigations and discovered some discrepancies in the payment of revenue to the department.
Prosecution told the court that Madam Eshun therefore alerted the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, and the accused person’s records were subsequently audited.
Chief Inspector Anku said the auditors discovered non-payment of cash revenue into state accounts, amounting to GH¢82, 977.00
He said Mrs Eshun lodged a complaint with the police, which led to the arrest of the accused person.
Chief Inspector Anku said during interrogation, the accused person admitted the crime and said he had used the money to cater for his family and also furnish his room.
The prosecutor told the court that Adumah was earlier put before court and granted bail, adding that he pledged to refund the amount involved, but only paid GH¢5,600.00 and absconded.
His sureties later arrested him after several days and handed him over to the police.
