Access Bank Ghana has unveiled a series of capacity development initiatives for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) across the country.

An initiative of the Bank’s recently established Business Banking Group, the event is focused on growing and supporting local businesses through seminars and various banking products.

Dubbed the ‘Power Breakfast’ series, it is intended to enhance SME operational efficiency as well as empower them with skills to improve management of their business operations.

 The maiden edition of the ‘Power Breakfast’ series was held at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra, and was attended by over 100 SME customers of the Bank.

Also in attendance was the Managing Director of GhIPPS, Mr. Archie Hesse, as Special Guest.

 Welcoming participants to the event, the Group Head for Business Banking at Access Bank Ghana, Mr. Fosuhene Acheampong said the bank ‘had created a full business division to support the needs of the SME sector through innovative banking solutions such as the Mpower Account, Payroll Management, Working Capital finance and the use of other electronic channels and devices’.

 The Power Breakfast series, according to Access Bank, is one of the ways in which it is demonstrating commitment to the economic empowerment of entrepreneurs in the country, especially in the critical segments of education, trading, hospitality and transportation among others.

Addressing the Entrepreneurs the Managing Director of the bank, Mr. Dolapo Ogundimu said, ‘The cost of doing business either in Ghana or abroad continues to rise, emphasizing that businesses ought to plan carefully to avoid the risk of folding up’.  He noted that as a result of the high cost of doing business, Access Bank is providing cost savings alternatives for SMEs in Ghana through its electronic banking channels.

‘As a Bank focused on driving sustainable growth, our job is to expose our SME stakeholders to convenient solutions that also help reduce their operational cost, improve their banking experience and drive economic growth. We believe that our ongoing efforts with this sector will improve efficiency and ultimately provide cost savings for the Ghanaian economy’.

Participants were educated on the benefits of using the Access Bank Point of Sale devices (POS) which has been configured to accept the new generation of chip and PIN cards and easily adapts to new technology.

The use of chip and PIN will not only give customers a higher level of security, but ensure that they are not paying additional costs by processing non-secure transactions.

Mr. Archie Hesse, Managing Director of GhiPPS also shared insights on the value additions that the institution was making to deepen the use of electronic payment channels among businesses in the country. He noted that e-banking was an important business tool for modern businesses to enable them stay ahead of competition.

The ‘Power Breakfast’ series is expected to be held regularly for Access Bank’s SME customers nationwide.
