7 Awesome Remedies For Oily Hair …

If you experience a greasy texture a day or two after washing your hair, you might be interested in some of these remedies for oily hair. I know firsthand that dealing with oily hair can be quite challenging. Hair can appear to be heavy, flat and dull when it should be feeling light and clean. Having oily roots also poses a problem when you want volume in your hair and it can also feel unclean. Ease this common hair care woe with the following remedies for oily hair.

1. ACIDIC RINSE

Lemon juice and vinegar are some of the cheapest and easiest remedies for oily hair around. All you need to do is mix one cup of water with the juice of one lemon or two tablespoons of white vinegar. Mix the two together and pour it in your hair, concentrating on the roots which is typically the oiliest area, then rinse it out with warm water. This diluted hair rinse will help decrease oil and product buildup in your hair.

2. BAKING SODA

Another budget-friendly remedy for oily hair is to use baking soda. Mix a couple of tablespoons of baking soda with a liter of water, mix well and apply to your hair. After you apply to your hair, leave the mixture in for about 20 minutes, then rinse well with warm water. Another great trick is to sprinkle a little bit of baking soda on the roots and brush it out as an alternative to dry shampoo.

3. TAKE A SHOT

The next time you’re enjoying an alcoholic beverage, pour a shot for your tresses, too. Mixing a shot of alcohol, any type of alcohol with a high alcohol content, with a few cups of water to dilute it and applying it to your hair can have a drying effect to an oily scalp. Make sure you rinse it out well and whatever you do, don’t drink the diluted alcohol water!

4. ROSEMARY TEA

Tea contains tannic acid which is awesome at decreasing excess oil in your scalp and hair. You can use chamomile or green tea, but rosemary tea is highly recommended as it contains essential oils that help with the overproduction of oil. Pour a cup of boiling water and steep a tea bag or two tablespoons of loose leaf tea for about 20 minutes and allow it to cool. Next, apply to this to your hair after you shampoo. There’s no need to rinse it out unless you don’t like the fragrance.

5. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Apple cider vinegar has so many incredible health and beauty uses it’s kind of mind boggling! You can create an oily hair treatment by mixing of ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with 16 ounces of water and apply it to your hair after you shampoo, concentrating on the scalp. This mixture is also fantastic for relieving an itchy scalp and to help restore the pH balance.

6. MOUTHWASH

It might seem funny to use mouthwash in your hair, but it can work as an effective astringent to decrease oiliness. Try mixing equal parts mouthwash and witch hazel together. After you shampoo your hair, dab a cotton ball into the mixture and apply onto your scalp only, not your hair. This treatment will help decrease the production of sebum on your scalp.

7. ALOE VERA

The last home remedy for oily hair I’d like to recommend is to make your own shampoo to combat oily hair. Mix a teaspoon of aloe vera gel with a tablespoon of lemon juice and add it to a cup of your favorite shampoo and mix. You can keep this in a container in the fridge for up to a week. This DIY shampoo can help get rid of dead skin cells, relieve an itchy scalp, restore shine and break down sebum.

Having oily hair doesn’t mean you have to invest in a bunch of expensive hair care products. There are plenty of inexpensive home remedies you can try to breathe some life back into your hair. Have you ever tried any oily hair remedies before?
