5 Institutions to clarify payment of compensation to Ntwea Family


The Judgement Debt Commission has subpoenaed five institutions to clarify why the Ntwea Family in the Western Region was paid compensation of GH¢4,400,000 in 2012.

They are the Lands Commission, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Company and the Gold-Street Real Estate Consult. 

The compensation was paid in respect of the state acquisition of the family’s 185.30 acres of land at Atwereboanda in the Western Region in 2011. Lands

When the Deputy Chief Valuer of the Lands Commission, Mrs Theodora Mends, appeared before the commission yesterday, she said the state acquired the land by Executive Instrument, EI 35.

She said after the publication of the EI, the Ntwea Family came out to lay claim to the land.

Mrs Mends said the family, through its consultants, Gold-Street Real Estate Consult, presented a valuation to the Lands Commission.

She said the valuation by the family’s consultants was higher than that of the Lands Commission, a development which compelled the Lands Commission to hold a meeting with the consultants, at which the commission explained to the consultants that their valuation was too high.

Consequently, she said, the two parties settled on GH¢4,400,000.

She said BOST made the payment in two tranches in 2012. Purpose

Mrs Mends was, however, unable to tell the commission the project for which the said land was acquired.

She also could not say whether or not any project had been started on the land. No show

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, BOST and Gold-Street were unable to appear before the commission.

The case was subsequently adjourned to May 20, 2014 for them to make an appearance.
