Music ‘beefs’ will cause deaths soon – Abrewa Nana

The ‘beefing’ craze, which has gained currency among Ghanaian hip life and dancehall artistes, has been viewed by many as that which keeps the music scene alive. Some have also said it is a means of promotion for artistes involved.

Abrewa Nana has, however, told citifmonline.com in an interview that the act could result in calamities if not checked.

“The industry thinks it is fun but it is not funny and it takes us nowhere. After diss, what? Make up? One of these days there will be deaths out of such act and then we will admit it is not healthy,” she said.

When asked her opinion on the performance of female musicians, especially those who do her style of music, Abrewa Nana said the female artistes are doing well for themselves but can be better.

“Others are not really doing dancehall but they call themselves as such. But I appreciate all of them. At don’t have any favourite. They are all doing well,” Abrewa Nana further noted.

How is Abrewa Nana planning to redeem her space in the music industry? She is optimistic of a stronger comeback.

“Re-launching myself has not been tough since I’m not a new artiste and knowing how I have paid my dues, competition doesn’t scare me,” she intimated.

Abrewa Nana who recently released her single, ‘Who I be’ hinted of a project she’s embarking on which will blow the minds of music fans.

“There are going to be other releases soon and I am just here to stay to contribute to the growth of the industry, to motivate and encourage through my music and to support who needs mine,” she stated.

Born Dorcas Opoku Darkwa on 3rd December, 1980, Abrewa Nana stepped the threshold of the music industry in 2000. She has songs like Saga, Odo Filla, Esisi Me So ft. Samini, among others.

Abrewa was nominated in the Ghana Music Awards in 2000, 2001, 2002 in the New Artiste of the Year, Hiplife song of the Year and Best Female Vocalist of the Year categories, respectively.
