Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia, has announced that government will bear the cost of treatment for survivors of the Kintampo Waterfall disaster, and also assist with the funeral of all those who died.

The Vice President revealed this in Kintampo where he is commiserating with families of the disaster victims.

The tragic incident at the Kintampo Waterfall on Sunday claimed the lives of about 19 students and injured dozens.

The students, who were largely from Wenchi Methodist Senior High School, were on an excursion in the company of their teachers.

The Vice President also addressed students of the school in a bid to lift their spirits and assure them of government’s support.

It has been confirmed the tragic accident occurred after a strong wind flung a huge tree which was on top of the mountain.

The Waterfalls is estimated to attract hundreds of revellers every day but the Sunday attendees were students.

The announcement by the Vice President is seen as a response to the push by the Minority.

The Minority on Monday implored the government to bear the medical expenses of students who were injured in the Kintampo Waterfalls disaster.

Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, in a statement, said the government must “defray their [injured] medical expenses as was the practice when the NDC held political power.”
