Your skin is an incredible piece of natural engineering. It regulates your body temperature, it protects you from dirt and bacteria, and it converts the sun’s energy into Vitamin D. Your skin is also more sensitive to what you eat, what you put on it, and the type of life you lead than you probably realised. If you want healthy looking, glowing skin, the best place to start is with the basics. Here are the ten things you need to do if you want to have gorgeous, glowing skin.

1. Start detoxing today

The cleaner you are on the inside, the clearer your skin will be on the outside, so start thinking about what you can do to detox your body today. Cutting down on sugar, salt, alcohol and processed foods would be a good start, but you could also add more fibre to your diet, drink more water and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

2. Cleanse twice a day

Keeping your skin clean will stop the pores getting clogged up and stop bacteria causing inflammation and pimples. Cleanse your skin thoroughly twice a day with a gentle, natural foam cleanser, and then rinse it well with clean water. Don’t skip this important step, even if you are really tired, and, of course, never go to bed with your makeup on.

3. Boost your vitamins and antioxidants

When you are selecting your skin care products, look for those that contain vitamins A, C, D, and E, and those that have antioxidants in them. The vitamins will provide the nourishment that your skin needs and the antioxidants will fight inflammation and the signs of ageing. You can also boost your intake of vitamins and antioxidants by adding more colours to your plate, because it’s the colourful vegetables that are most beneficial for your skin.

4. Try using coconut oil

Coconut oil has an amazing restorative effect on dry and damaged skin. It contains antioxidants that fight the damage that can be caused by free radicals and it will help damaged skin repair itself. Coconut oil also has the ability to even out skin tone and it will leave your skin with a lovely, fresh looking glow.

5. Exfoliate

When dead skin cells build up on your skin, they will hide all the radiance, so exfoliate with a mild exfoliator once or twice a week to keep your skin glowing. A simple way to exfoliate would be to use a mixture of salt and coconut oil. The salt is not too abrasive and the coconut oil will help to rejuvenate your skin.

6. Try juicing

Glowing skin really does begin with what you eat, but when you are busy, eating the right types of food is not always easy. If you want to make getting your daily dose of fruit and veg easier, try juicing. It’s easy to make really delicious smoothies and juices and you can use all the vegetables and fruits that will give you the nutrients that your skin needs to stay glowing and clear. There’s certainly no shortage of wonderful juicing recipes online if you are not sure where to start.

7. Keep your skin well hydrated

Dry looking skin can easily be rectified by adopting a regular moisturising regime. Moisturise your skin daily, in the mornings and in the evenings, with a light, natural moisturiser and avoid washing your face with harsh soaps. You also need to make sure that you are drinking plenty of water each day because your skin needs hydrating from the inside as well.

8. Boost your glow with makeup

If you can’t wait for these natural ways to achieve glowing skin to work, try using radiance boosting makeup. You can quickly bring a glow to your face by using illuminating cream underneath your makeup. Bronzers are another way to add more colour skin. Apply a light shade of bronzer to the areas of your skin that the sun would hit your face, such as your cheeks, nose and forehead. A bit of blusher on the apples of your cheeks will help you achieve a healthy glow too.

9. Get your rest

Slow down and get some rest! Stress and tiredness will sap colour from your skin, so try to take more breaks and try to destress a little. Get a good night’s sleep too. You should be trying to get at least seven hours of sleep every day. If you need a way to wind down, try taking up yoga. It will keep you in shape and it will help you relax.

10. Suck an ice cube

If you need a quick fix that will bring a glow to your cheeks, try sucking an ice cube. The cold of the ice will chill the skin cells and that will increase the circulation, which will give you a rosy glow and plump out your skin.

Stay beautiful!
