Reports reaching Joy News indicate that eight pupils of the Breman Jamera Methodist School in the Odoben Brakwa District of the Central region have been killed after their school building collapsed on them.

The about 70 pupils, aged four and five were about to settle for studies when the building collapsed.

Many others who sustained varying degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at the Breman Asikuma Hospital.

School Collapse

According to school authorities, the block in question had developed cracks and several appeals for the defects to be fixed were not adhered to.

One of the teachers told Joy News’ Richard Kojo Nyarko that the Parent Teacher Association had been informed about the development but nothing was done.

A parent whose child was injured during the incident said she was about to leave home for the farm when she was informed about the incident.

She rushed to the hospital and thankfully, her ward is feeling better. She expressed disappointment at the failure of the authorities to fix the damaged building.

Another parent said her child is in critical condition but hoped that he will not die.

A joint team of police and Fire Service personnel are at the scene, trying to restore calm.
