Hearts of Oak Assistant coach Henry Wellington has identified some weak spots in the wake of the team’s performance in the recent Ghalca 6 tournament.
The Phobians came second in the annual pre-season competition following a 4-3 penalty defeat to Aduana Stars on Sunday, the game proper having ended 1-1 after normal time.
Wellington is in charge of the team on an interim basis, with a new head coach expected to be named in the coming days.
“I commend the effort of the players in the G6 tournament, but in certain games, we clearly lacked leadership, which led to lack of concentration,” he said, as reported by Sports Crusader.
“We experienced such difficulties against Aduana Stars in the final and we were duly punished. Moving forward, we have to show consistency in leadership on the field of play.
“If you have a solid defence and midfield but lack quality upfront, you can’t deem your team a complete one.
“I have recommended three players to the management so as to strengthen the team.
“So I’m focused on building a strong team, so people should not be judgmental about our team.”
A host of coaches including former Rwanda coach Johnny McKinstry, Brazilian coach Rafael Everton and ex-Aduana Stars trainer Aristica Cioaba are some of the personalities rumoured to have filled applications for the vacant coaching role.
