#GhElections: Dispute over 2 ballot boxes in Mfantseman

Reports from the collation centre in Mfantseman Constituency indicate that there is a dispute over two ballot boxes

Citi News‘ correspondent narrated that he was at the collation centre along with many others awaiting the ballot boxes for collation to begin when they heard a ruckus and realised a man was being manhandled by a group of people.

The correspondent reported that the man had brought two ballot boxes to the collation centre in a taxi without any policemen or party agents accompanying him.

According to the correspondent, “When he was asked where he got it from, he could not say anything and the people took the things from him and decided they were not allowing that one to get close to the collation centre and they were ready to beat him up.”

The military eventually had to intervene and the situation has calmed somewhat but the military are were firing warning shots to keep the crowd under control.

The man who brought the ballot boxes is yet to be identified and it is unclear if he is an officer of the Electoral Commission. It is however believed that the ballot boxes were from a polling centre in a town in Mfantseman called Biriwa.

The ballot boxes were seized by the angry crowd and their exact location is unknown to the correspondent on the ground.

“The people have vowed that they will not allow those ballot boxes to get close to eve where the rest have been packed,” he stated.
