Some young marathoners with their awards
Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuije, says young athletes who took part in the Milo marathon will be given special attention by the state ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
According to the sector minister, marathoners between the ages of 12-16 years will be given full scholarship schemes at the Winneba Sports College.
Despite having budding talents in the long distance race, Ghana has made little impact at the Olympics and Vanderpuije believes now is the time to change the status quo.
“We are once again reopening the Winneba Sports College as a base for developing talents.
“These young marathoners will be given the opportunity with scholarships to develop them ahead of Japan 2020 so these young ones will form the nucleus of Team Ghana in Tokyo”, Vanderpuije revealed at this year’s Milo marathon.
