Accra, Sept. 15,
GNA – The National U-19 cricket team has maintained its dominance in the
ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa Division 2 cricket tourney
after a resounding 120 runs victory over Tanzania on Thursday in Benoni, South
Africa.

Ghana scored a
total of 194 runs all out in 49.1 overs in the first innings whilst their
opponents Tanzania only managed 74 runs all out in 29.4 overs.

The victory today
has put Ghana on top of the table with 10 points following wins over Botswana,
Sierra Leone, Zambia, Rwanda and Tanzania to maintain their unbeaten form in
the tournament.

Ghana will have to
defeat Nigeria in their last game on Saturday to qualify for ICC Africa
Division One after the West African side lost to Botswana by 1 wicket today.

With this, the
Minister of Youth and Sports Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has sent a goodwill
message to encourage the team ahead of their clash with neighbours Nigeria on
Saturday.

The message from
the sector minister is expected to urge the team to win their game and pick the
sole slot for the ICC Africa Division One.

It said “Congratulations,
Ghana owes you a lot for what you are doing for cricket in the country. Your
patriotic and selfless commitment to the sport is indubitably remarkable. I
thank God for blessing the Ministry of Youth and Sports with such lieutenants.
God bless you and the team. We are proud of you already for this achievement
and counting on you to write your names in the history of Ghana Sports. Accept
the well wishes of the President, Government and People of Ghana”.
