We’ll need $600k to replace Hockey turf – Akpokavi

Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium

The president of the Ghana Hockey Association Richard Akpokavi says government will need over $600,000 to change the turf at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

Despite the fast deteriorating state of the pitch, the Black Sticks’ male and female sides have all qualified for the round two of FIH World Hockey league this year in Spain.

Akpokavi believes the quick replacement of the turf will open more opportunities to host more tournaments.

“This turf has lived beyond its lifespan and we need to replace it. So that is the plan going forward in the next year or two, with the necessary support we will change the turf to get more tournaments,“ he told Starr Sports.

The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium was constructed some five years ago, but has not seen any major renovation till date.
