Salaries of Public sector workers on the Single Spine Salary Structure across the country have been increased by 12.5 percent.
The increment was approved after a Public Sector Joint Negotiation Committee meeting today, Tuesday September 13.
The negotiations included the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC), which comprised of government, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
The increment is likely to take off in January 2017.
The increment comes barely three months to the general elections scheduled for December 7.
It also comes few weeks after government has announced a 10 percent increment in the daily minimum wage for workers.
