Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – Members of the Global
Evangelical Church Choirs Union as part of their 2016 triennial national rally,
have donated assorted items and a cash of GH¢2,000.00 to the Kpando Local
The items valued at GH¢4,000.00 include bags
of maize, rice, sugar, beans, gari, salt, some beverages, toilet rolls,
plantain, palm oil and used clothes.
Reverend Emmanuel Teimah Barrigah, Director
of Church Life and Nurture of the Global Evangelical Church, who presented the
items on their behalf, said the Union obeyed the word of God which urged all
Christians to reach out to the poor and needy in the society.
He explained that the Union strategically
selected the Kpando Local Prisons so that they could preach to the inmates,
evangelise and share the word of God with them.
Rev Barrigah said the Union also saw the
donation as part of its social responsibility.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP), Eric
Ainoo-Ansah who received the items on behalf of the Director General, thanked
the Union for the kind gesture.
He said the care for the prison inmates is
not the duty of the Prisons Service alone but a shared responsibility.
CSP Ainoo-Ansah indicated that, caring for
inmates is beyond feeding but includes visits, praying for as well as preaching
to them to make them better people.
“Your presence makes them feel accepted and
also part of the society,” he said.
The leadership of the Choirs Union and the
clergy of the Church preached and prayed with the inmates, some of whom gave
their lives to Jesus Christ.
Madam Helen Ntoso, the Volta Regional
Minister and Mrs Paulina Adinyira, the Kpando Municipal Chief Executive were
also there to lend their support.
