NsromaMedia.Com has photos from a bizarre ceremony in the Indonesian province of Toraja, South Sulawesi, in which families gather in a ceremony of celebration with the dead. Dead relatives that they’ve dug up and given a complete makeover.
It is an annual ritual, a Zombie ceremony, where villagers dig up dead relatives and dress them up in fancy new clothes and clean out their hair. All skeletons are exhumed, including those of dead children.

The ritual is called M’anene, or the Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses, where the mummies are walked around the village after they have been cleaned and damaged coffins have been fixed.
The rite is a celebration to keep their relatives alive in their minds and hearts.
In the Toraja community, funeral rites are very elaborate and expensive. The people believe that the spirit of their dead must return to the village of his/her origin.
