Tinga (N/R), Sept. 1, GNA – Mr Abdallah
Abubakari, the Northern Regional Minister, has visited victims of a gas
explosion at Tinga near Bole to console the families of the dead and those who
sustained injuries.

The Minister was accompanied by District Chief
Executives for Sawla/Tuna/Kalba and West Gonja amongst other government
functionaries to Tinga, a mining community in the Bole District where the gas
explosion occurred.

The explosion occurred last Sunday leading to
the demise of six persons and leaving several others injured.

Four of the deceased including a 10-year old
boy, were natives of the community while the driver of the vehicle, conveying
the cylinders and other construction materials when the explosion occurred, and
his mate’s bodies are still in the hospital waiting for autopsy and
identification.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr
David Dogbatse Azumah, Bole District Police Commander said a vehicle carrying
materials identified to be copper pipes, gas cylinders and other containers
exploded killing six individuals and injuring several others.

ASP Azumah said the supposed pipes were meant
for the construction of the Upper West (WA) Regional Hospital and that the
containers were believed to contain oxygen gas and acetylene gas but could not
establish the real cause of the explosion.

He said the police are conducting further
investigations into the matter and that the National Fire Service had also been
called in to help in the investigations.

The Regional Minster urged the police to put
in more efforts to find out the cause of the explosion.
