MTN launches Heroes of change 3

Mobile telecommunications giant MTN Ghana on Wednesday, August 31 launched Season Three of its Heroes of Change project in Accra.

This year’s edition is under the theme: ‘Who is your hero?’.

The initiative which was launched in 2013 is to reward and encourage hard working Ghanaians who are bringing change to their communities and the country as a whole.

The project will be executed through a nationwide search for community heroes.

Nominations will be shortlisted and a team will be dispatched into the communities to verify the stories. The work of the selected finalists will be broadcast through a thirteen-week TV series.

After this, winners for various categories will be selected and recognized and a grand award will be given to the finalist who will emerge as the 2016 MTN Hero of Change.

The categories for selection have been aligned with the key focus areas of the MTN Foundation which are Education, Health and Economic Empowerment.

Ten (10) finalists will be shortlisted and broadcasted as part of a 13-week TV series. After this, winners for the various categories will be selected and rewarded with a prize amount of GHC20, 000 each.

The grand award of GHS100, 000 will be awarded to the finalist who will emerge as the 2016 MTN Hero of Change while the remaining six finalists will be awarded GhC5, 000 each to support their work.

In addition to these prizes, the public will have the benefit of donating to any of the ten shortlisted projects through SMS and MTN Mobile Money. This way, the public gets a chance to support the work of the identified heroes who will be showcased on TV.

Speaking at the launch, CEO of MTN Ghana, Cynthia Lumor, said the initiative has been expanded to have a much bigger impact in more communities, urging Ghanaians to identify people in their communities who have done exceptionally well for others and nominate them to be honoured as Heroes of Change.

According to her, a new concept dubbed “My Hero” will allow the public to recognize individuals who are touching the lives of others in little ways on social Media (Facebook). The one with the highest ‘LIKES’ on Fcaebook will be awarded accordingly.
