NDC supporters defy heavy downpour to meet Mahama

Supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Yendi on Wednesday defied a heavy down pour to welcome President John Dramani Mahama who is on campaign tour of the area.

The supporters some of whom were on motorbikes and others walking, showed excitement even under the rain as the president and his entourage drove through the town to the palace of the Regent Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abdulai Andani to pay a courtesy call on him.

Some of them who spoke to Starrfmonline.com said they will do anything to ensure the NDC is retained in power including walking through the rain.

Iddrisu Fuseini one of the supporters told Musah Lansah Starr FM’s Upper West correspondent that he has been waiting for the president since morning.

“When we heard he was coming here, I left my house very early so that I don’t miss seeing him. I have been here since 8am and I won’t allow the rain to prevent me from seeing him,” he said.

Aside from standing through the rain to listen to the president for almost an hour, some supporters were seen dancing in the rain.

President Mahama is in the Northern region for a four day re-election campaign tour.

He has visited Salaga, Kpandai, Wulensi, Bimbilla, Zabzugu, Tatale, Yendi and Mion all in the eastern enclave of the Northern region.

The four day tour is expected to end on Thursday with visits to Saboba, Chereponi, Gushegu and Nanton.
