Let me start by saying that growing old is a gift…
But damn! You get to 25, blink and you’re 30 and you start reminiscing how “Just the other day I was 21…days are going so fast”
If you’re in your late 20s and early to mid-30s you can concur that some things have changed quite a bit…
Here are subtle signs that you’re growing old:
1. Birthdays don’t excite you anymore
Remember how your 21st birthday was a big deal? Well, you’re 27th or 31st doesn’t really excite you. You don’t even want people to ask how old you are, and matter of fact, you’re okay with just spending the day in the house catching up on the latest Netflix series.
2. You get a lot of “Oh you don’t look your age” comments
Mmmh…just take it as a compliment.
3. Your hangovers last for an entire day or two!
Back in the day, you could do tequila shots like a mother…these days, your hangovers last an entire day. You literally feel like you got ran over by a bus; apparently, that’s your youth leaving the body…
4. Your friends are getting married and engaged
Suddenly, nearly all your friends are either engaged, married, taken, heavily pregnant or are already parents.
5. You no longer know all the songs on the radio
When throwback jams play in the club or on the radio, you are the loudest. You can rap along to Missy Elliott’s ‘Getcha freak on’ better than Michelle Obama’s carpool karaoke. “Ariana Grande? Can someone explain to me like a 2-year-old what that is?”
6. You can’t keep up with new lingo
You need Google to understand new lingo on the streets. Suddenly, woke, slay and yaaaas are new terms and you’re busy trying to keep up.
7. You find yourself saying…
“When I was your age” when talking to younger people a lot!
8. You’re less trendy
You don’t feel the need to be in all social media apps. A weekly Instagram photo and a Facebook update is enough for you. You’re actually concerned about the generation of people with dog filters like ‘where did we go wrong?’. You’re more concerned about world issues and keenly follow the likes of Pierce Morgan on Twitter.
9. You have fewer friends in your circle
Cause you know real friends are hard to come by…and if anything, people are too busy trying to get their ducks in a row to worry about catching up…
10. You just don’t care about attending social events
Back in the day, you would not be caught dead missing out on outdoor social events. These days, not so much…you’re happy to stay home with your better half and grab a movie and take out.
11. You’re now a relationship & career person
You are starting to take relationships seriously, because? Biological clock! In addition, you’re really focused on getting your finances in check!
