13, GNA – Mr Albert Abongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, has pleaded with
senior citizens in the country to help ensure that peaceful elections are held
citizens full of wisdom and experience you can help contribute to ensuring
peaceful general elections. We are therefore pleading with you to utilize your
wisdom to help maintain peace so as to deepen the democratic process of the
country” he said.
Mr Abongo said
this during a party in Bolgatanga, organized by the Upper East Regional
Coordinating Council for the elderly, as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
He urged all in
active service to prepare adequately towards their pension so as to avoid
encountering many difficulties when they go on pension.
Among the key
concerns raised at the function was lifestyle of many of the youth in the
region- the abuse of alcohol and drugs, the poor educational standards, the
delay of the School Feeding grants for second cycle institutions, the erratic
rainfall and the land tenure system among others.
A former Regional
Minister Mr Donald Adabare Adabre called on parents to take active interest in
the performance of their children in school.
Mr Adabre, who is
also an Agriculturalist, urged farmers in the region to ensure that they
planted early maturing crops since the rains started late this year, so as to

The event which
attracted a large number of the elderly from all the thirteen districts of the
Region was also used to present gifts to some of them who had contributed
significantly to the development of the Region and the Country.
