American triple jump silver medallist Will Claye was the latest Olympic athlete to use the occasion and propose on Tuesday

Rio de Janeiro,
Aug. 17, (GNA/dpa) – American triple jump silver medallist Will Claye was the
latest Olympic athlete to use the occasion and propose on Tuesday.

Claye went into the
Olympic stadium stands after his competition and posed the crucial question to
girlfriend Queen Harrison, a hurdler who didn’t make the US team for Rio.

“She said
yes,” the stadium announcer told the crowd later.

Claye said: “I
told her that she was my best friend. I told her that I want to grow old with
her. I want her to be by my side for the rest of my life.

He also quipped:
“I was hoping nobody proposed to her first before I did.”

Proposing has
become a sport in its own right in Rio.

Rugby stadium
manager Marjorie Enya started the trend three days into the Games when she
proposed on the field to her girlfriend Isadora Cerullo who plays on the Brazil
team.

Others include
Chinese divers Qin Kai and He Zi. Rio bronze medallist Qin went on his knees
with a ring in his hand as He stepped off the podium after winning silver in
the women’s springboard final.
