Koforidua (E/R), Aug.16, GNA – The Koforidua
Regional Hospital has organised a health walk for its staff as part of
activities to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the hospital.
The two hour walk through the principal
streets of Koforidua was also to promote family planning in the Koforidua
The walk started around 06:10 hours from the
premises of the hospital through to the B Foster bakery traffic light,
Effiduase, Koforidua Zongo and back to the hospital premises, where the
participants went through aerobics.
Speaking after the walk, Dr Kwame Anim
Boamah, Medical Director of the hospital said, the walk was to promote a family
planning programme being undertaken by some Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
for three regions including the Eastern Region.
He said under the programme, all who
endeavour to practice family planning can do so at the cost of GH₵1.00
He explained that the family planning
promotion is to help curb maternal mortality, which is caused by unwanted
pregnancies, unsafe abortions and also to offer opportunities for people, who
for financial reasons cannot access maternal health care.
Dr Boamah advised the public to take
interest in the exercise, especially those above the age of 30 years.
He said physical exercise help the body to
overcome some non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes,
which can lead to stroke.
Dr Boamah advised the general public to
constantly go for medical check-up at least once in a year.
