Accra, Aug. 16, GNA
– The Greater Accra Rugby Association (GARA) has elected Abdul Aziz Issah as
its President at a congress held in Accra Tuesday.
Abdul Aziz Isaah
polled nine votes out of 13 to beat his competitor Abdul Samad Said.
The newly elected
President will run the affairs of the association for a four-year period.

positions went to Emmanuel Linford Owusu, General Secretary, Gifty Kukua
Aggrey, Technical Director, Amuzuloh K. Abdul Salim and Public Relations
Officer, Omar Sherif Captan.

unopposed and received a Yes from the delegates.
The GARA President
said the executive team will work towards seeking sponsorship and other
funding, develop rugby in schools and that of female Rugby and intensify Clubs
and player welfare, in association with the Ghana Rugby Union Player
Issah stressed on
the need to develop Female Rugby, which hitherto has been neglected for some
years, adding that, his team will place special emphasis on female rugby by
encouraging the formation and recruitment of girls into a female rugby training
To support and grow
the sport, he pledged GH 5,000.00 to the GARA, saying that, “we are all aware
that without funding nothing really works. I am quickly going to establish a
task force to help in our fund raising activities.”
He said the elected
members will devise strategies to address the protection and promotion of
Rugby, its values and spirit, as well as increasing local participation of
teams in Greater Accra and ensuring player welfare best practice.
He said they would
also aim to maximise the value of all GARA properties, increasing
sustainability and competitiveness of Greater Accra Rugby, optimizing national
participation and providing strong and effective leadership.”
Isaah thanked the
President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Herbert Mensah, for the
immense contribution he has made toward developing the sport since taking
office in 2014.
