National Youth Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has expressed disappointment in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allowing Ghanaian actor John Dumelo to address party supporters at the party’s Campaign launch Sunday.
According to him, John Dumelo’s appearance at the podium to address party faithfuls is a calculated attempt by the NDC to sideline the national Youth Organizer of the party, Sidii Abubakar.
“I was very sad and still sad to have seen John Dumelo at the podium speaking when in fact the NDC has a Youth Organizer. It is a sad story because they have a youth organizer who is supposed to speak to the youth and not John Dumelo.
“Indeed, NDC has sidelined my friend Sidii Abubakar and I’m very sad” he asserted.
Celebrities branching into politics is no new phenomenon in Ghana’s political history, with many stars declaring their support to various political parties especially during an election year.
Actor John Dumelo has openly endorsed the second term bid of President John Dramani Mahama and in the last couple of months have been seen canvassing for votes for the NDC.
Speaking at the campaign launch of the ruling NDC in Cape Coast, the controversial actor revealed “I decided to join the NDC after I met a certain group of people whose message didn’t convince me”.
Dumelo also appealed to the youth in the NPP to join the NDC as they canvass for a second term victory for the President since the NDC provides opportunities for the young.
But Sammi Awuku in an interview could not fathom why the NDC would authorize the actor to speak to the youth on a biggest platform when there is a national youth leader.
“It was the biggest platform for the NDC in which a youth leader was supposed to be given the opportunity to inspire the youth. What is left on the bill for them is their manifesto launch which I’m sure will be a collection of the elite and Regional Executives.
“But on a big platform where you had close to 20,000 people listening to you and if their youth leader was denied that opportunity for Actor John Dumelo to be replaced and mount the podium to speak then I think it’s very sad,” he asserted.
