Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has rubbished claims Kevin-Prince Boateng failed a medical at Sporting Lisbon in a dramatic merry-go-round over the future of the Ghana star.

It was widely reported that the deal for the 28-year-old fell through over image right.

But in a rather dramatic twist, the Sporting Lisbon’s International relations official Augusto Inacio revealed the former AC Milan man failed a medical due to his prolonged knee injury.

But Schalke chief Horst Heldt has lifted the lid on his botched move to the Portuguese side and says contractual disagreements culminated in the collapse of the two-year deal.

“Kevin has had a meeting with his advisors. We’ve cleared up the unsuccessful negotiations with Sporting Lisbon, who’ve confirmed to me that talks broke down as a result of several contract details rather than any medical condition,” he told the club’s website

“The two sides simply couldn’t come to an agreement, as the dispute didn’t rest on just one point. Ultimately, they couldn’t find a compromise.”

Boateng has been suspended by the German Bundesliga side and is looking for a new club.

The 28-year-old has been linked with Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, Galatasaray and Lazio.
