AFCON Qualifiers: Attracting Angry Fans; Ghana To Open Free Gates To Stadium

Fans will not be paying to watch the Ghana – Uganda tie at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, officials have declared in a move to attract angry fans.

The Ghana – Uganda 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier will be free to the public, Goal Ghana can confirm.

The Black Stars open their campaign for a spot at Morocco 2015 with the Cranes on September 6 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana’s Ashanti regional capital.

The Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga issued the fiat after consulting the Ghana FA and other stakeholders.

Supporters have been apathetic towards the Black Stars since they touched down in Ghana for the qualifying game in the Garden City. The public have lost interest in the team following their abysmal performance in Brazil that was characterised by player revolt over appearance fee.

Kumasi has been the largest fan base of the four-time African champions, but the usual fanfare that welcomes the pride of the nation at trainings is conspicuously missing this time.

According to the Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, stakeholders are in a meeting Friday to discuss modalities that will prevent a situation of overcrowding.

Ghana will take on Togo four days later.
