A heap of garbage at Aduyama Zongo in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region which posed danger to the people has been cleared.

The garbage had been tagged as a ‘mountain’ as it continued to rise each passing day following people’s decision to dump more filth into it.

The heap of garbage had been there since the days of Gabriel Barimma aka ‘Tweaa DCE,’ ex District Chief Executive of Ahafo Ano South.

It posed serious health hazard to people in the area, especially, as cholera cases had been reported in some areas of the country, lately.

The acting DCE of the area, Joseph Yammin, who is also the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, ordered for the garbage to be cleared.

He had earlier on ensured that huge garbage at a different location in the district had also been cleared, exactly one month in office.

Mr Yammin explained to newsmen on Tuesday that his bold action was to get rid of filth from the district and avert cholera outbreak in the area.

He said he felt worried and feared for the lives of the people of Ahafo Ano South when he first saw the heap of garbage at the two sites.

Mr Yammin said to prevent cholera from breaking out in the district, he quickly moved to ensure that the garbage was cleared.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, ably supported by Francis Dodovi, was at the garbage site on Tuesday as it was being cleared.

Mr Yammin used the occasion to admonish the people in his district to keep their environment clean and stop littering haphazardly.

The district assembly, he stated, would henceforth intensify campaign to sensitise the people about the need for them to keep the environment clean.
