6 Killed In Fresh Accident

The accident happened around 1:30 pm at a section of the Anwiankwanta-Assin-Fosu road—between Bogyawe and Sanfo-Aduam communities in the Bekwai Municipality—an eyewitness, Nana Poku said.

It is the second accident, in less than three days, involving a Benz Sprinter bus.

Sunday evening, a similar accident occurred on the Accra-Kumasi road at Asankare near Juaso, claiming over 21 lives.

According to the eyewitness, yesterday’s accident took rescuers more than 30 minutes to get all the 23 passengers out of the Sprinter bus with registration number AW 419 -14.

He told DAILY GUIDE that four of the victims died on the spot, while the remaining two died at the Bekwai Government Hospital where they were rushed for treatment.

Even though the cause of the fatal accident was not yet clear, Nana Poku stated that the driver of the speeding bus lost control of the vehicle minutes after one of its tyres got burst as it bumped into a pothole.

‘The bus somersaulted several times before it finally landed on its side,’ he narrated, and added that the identities of the deceased persons remained unknown.

He disclosed that 11 other passengers were taken to the Bekwai Government Hospital with serious injuries.
