MTN Ghana Launches 2014 Internet Festival

The leading Telecommunications Network in Ghana,MTN Ghana has launched the fourth edition of its Internet Festival dubbed ‘I-FEST’for the month of September in Accra yesterday.

The i-Festcelebration involves a month-long educational drive on the relevance of internet usage on everyday lives and increases the usage of MTN data service.

Activities lined up for the festival includes an Opera Mini Challenge, quizze competitions, data clinics, bonus on bundle offer and free browsing opportunities at selected MTN offices across the country.

Launching the festival, MrSerameTaukobong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MTN Ghana, said MTN believes Ghanaians has received i-fest considering the data subscriptions and revenues made over the years.

“We have seen very positive results from i-fest month activations and this has contributed to the significant increase in data subscriptions and revenues. MTN recorded close to 25,000 new data subscriptions through i-fest last year. This tells us that ifest has been very well received in Ghana and we will not relent in our efforts to drive data usage among our customers”.

“We are happy to say that Data contributed 17.4% of total revenues for MTN Ghana for the first half of 2014. MTN currently leads Ghana’s data market with 50.54% market share”.

MrTaukobong stated that considering the growth of internet usage in Ghana it is important for mobile operators to increase the capacity of the network with enhanced technology to be able to meet the demand.

He stated that, data usage is contributing immensely to the growth of GDP in the world’s economy, hence the need to educate Ghanaians to embrace technology.

He said MTN had the required supporting structures and is poised to lead the delivery of that bold new digital world.

“MTN continue to make strategic and systematic investments in our network to support growth and ensure improved customer experience.

He disclosed that MTN currently have over 1,137 3G sites and more than 4,000 kilometers of fiber deployed across the country.

MrTaukobong, therefore, urged Ghanaians to explore, connect and enjoy MTN’s fast internet services, both during and after the festival.
